Root Samsung Fascinate, And Install Custom Recovery Too [How-To]

So you want to root your Samsung Fascinate and install custom recovery on your Samsung Fascinate too? Well! I’ll tell you that how you can do it, it’s not so difficult, you can easily root and install recovery on your device just follow below step by step guide. But first note that device battery should be charged, please make a backup of your device data because the below procedure will wipe all data.

Turn the USB Debugging on, to do so just tap Menu> Settings> Application> Development. Then, make sure that USB debugging is checked. Samsung drivers should be installed on your PC, if you don’t have Samsung drivers get them here.

DISCLAIMER: The below method is bit risky and we will not be held responsible if you lose data or your device gets damaged in the following of this guide so please proceed at your own risk.

Instructions

Step #1: Download ClockworkMod Recovery-CWM2.5_Voodoo.tar.md5,stock_kernel.tar.md5 and su-2.3.6.1.x.zip on your PC and after that download and open Odin to run the program too.

Step #2: Now turn your Samsung Fascinate off and remove the battery.

Step #3: Now go to download mode, you can do it by pressing the volume down and continue to hold it while plugging the USB cord into your phone. You should see one of the small boxes in Odin turn yellow, as well as “Added” appearing in the message box.

Step #4: Now select the PDA button in Odin and search the CWM2.5_Voodoo.tar.md5 file you downloaded earlier.

Step #5: Click START. When this process has finished, you’ll be notified in Odin (succeeded 1 / failed 0) and your phone’s screen will go blank.*** Step 6 is only for rooting Froyo. If you’re rooting Gingerbread, skip Step 7 and proceed to Step 7. ***

Step #6: Disconnect the device and click RESET in Odin. Repeat Step 4 to get the phone back into download mode and recognized by Odin. Using the PDA button, navigate to the “stock_kernel.tar.md5″ file you downloaded earlier, select it, and press START. You’ll again be notified in Odin once this process has completed (succeeded 1 / failed 0).

Step #7: Again unplug your phone and re-insert the battery.

Step #8: Boot into recovery mode, you can do it by pressing volume up + volume down + power button.

Step #9: In Recovery mode select Install zip from SD Card> choose zip from SD card then su-2.3.6.1.x.zip. The recovery will flash the zip file.

Step #10:  Now go back to main menu and select Reboot System Now.
