Root Your Xperia S LT26i Running Android 2.3 Gingerbread [How-To]
Rooting voids the all limitations of manufacturer on Android smartphone, on rooted Android device you can install custom ROMs, hacks etc. XDA developer Bin4ry released rooting tool for Sony Xperia S LT26i and as usual we got a step by step guide to root your Sony Xperia S running Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Please note that rooting will void the warranty of your smartphone and the below guide is just for Xperia S model number LT26i, you can check device detail from Setting>About Phone.
Before you start first keep in mind that the bootloader of your Xperia S must be unlocked, you follow this guide to unlock bootloader. Use Windows PC, charge the battery of device and make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions
Step #1: Download Fastboot package to PC and unzip on desktop.
Step #2: You need pre-rooted firmware to root the device, download one of following for your device firmware version: firmware version 63 – firmware version 67.
Step #3: Turn the device off and reboot into fastboot mode by holding down Volume Up key while connecting the device to PC using USB cable. Device drivers will being installed on PC automatically, when computer ask to locate drivers, give fastboot folder you extracted in first step.
Step #4: Once the drivers are installed on PC, disconnect the device from PC.
Step #5: Transfer the downloaded firmware file to fastboot folder and once again repeat Step 3 to plug device in fastboot mode to PC.
Step #6: Open command prompt and navigate to fastboot folder.
Step #7: Enter following command, replace name with file name of downloaded firmware:
fastboot flash system NAME
That’s it, now just reboot the smartphone and download root checker app from Google play to check root access.
