Slim Bean Up for Galaxy Nexus, Based on Jelly Bean [How-To]

Many Android devices has tasted the Slim ICS custom ROM like Samsung Infuse 4G and HTC One X, it’s a trimmed down custom ROM that always comes with a small size and gives you more storage space on your Android device, the ROM features a stunning users interface with beautiful home launchers and wallpapers. It’s pre-rooted custom ROM that gives you fully stock Android experience. After Slim ICS series, the firs Slime Bean custom ROM has been released and available for both variants of Galaxy Nexus, the international GSM Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, thanks to recognized XDA developer member krarvind.

The ROM name Slim Bean tells that it’s based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the ROM always comes with useful features. However this version is still in development stages, which means it may has some bugs and some things aren’t working fine yet, but the developer behind Slim custom ROM series will fix all bugs soon in near future.

Read on how to install Slim Bean on Galaxy Nexus GSM/Verizon Variant but first do keep in mind that the bootloader of your Galaxy smartphone should be unlocked and ClockworkMod recovery must be installed on the device too, be sure to check out the WugFresh all in one toolkit to do everything you need for your device. Make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of ROM from here [XDA LINK], must download the JB_Common_a*.zip file and then download the one of following file according to your Android device:

  • Download JB_Maguro_a*.zip for the international GSM Galaxy Nexus variant
  • Download JB_Toro_a*.zip  for Verizon Galaxy Nexus variant

Step #2: Plug the device to PC using USB cable and copy both .zip files to  your Galaxy smartphone.

Step #3: Disconnect the device from PC and turn it off, then reboot the device into recovery mode by holding down volume down, volume up, and power buttons, first you’ll enter in Fastboot mode, in the fastboot mode use volume keys to navigate and power button to select, there you need to select recovery option to enter in recovery mode.

Step #4: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #5: Perform full wipe, first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.

Step #6: Select Install and locate the downloaded JB_Common_a*.zip file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete. Once the installation is done, also install JB_Maguro_a*.zip/JB_Toro_a*.zip according to your variant in the same manner.

Step #7: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”
