Transformer TF101 Receives Android Jelly Bean [How-To]

The Transformer TF101 also has joint the list of Android devices that has been received the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean via an unofficial port. As most of you know well that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean comes with number of new features and apps such as new keyboard app, Android Beam, better camera app, and much more.

The ROM comes with native UI, mostly things working fine but still in development and has some bugs, like the Google Now and dock special keys aren’t working currently, the GPS works fine, however you may face issues in passing the data from the sensors to higher level sys interface, you can’t stand by the tablet when the dock lid is closed, after all, the ROM is worthy to try if you really want to taste Jelly Bean.

Read on how to install Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on Transformer TF101. ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM Recovery) should be installed on your device and be sure to make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of ROM from here and Google Apps from here.

Step #2: Copy both downloaded files to SD card of device.

Step #3: Turn the device off.

Step #4: Reboot the device into recovery mode by holding down volume down and power buttons, when you see words scrolling on device, press volume up and it will take you to recovery mode (Note: In recovery mode use volume keys to navigate and power button to select).

Step #5: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #6: Perform full wipe, first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.

Step #7: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded ROM .zip file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete.

Step #8: Repeat the last step to install Google Apps.  

Step #9: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”
