Upgrade HTC One S to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean via ParanoidAndroid ROM – features hybrid UI
ParanoidAndroid is a well-known custom ROM for different modes and UI, the ParanoidAndroid ROM includes both phone and tablet modes, it’s great to use a tablet on a phone or phone UI on a tablet event this lets you to customize the different aspects of these modes, Android users love ParanoidAndroid ROM for this hybrid UI but that’s not enough, it’s based on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean that also is flooded with numerous handy features such as Google Now search app, faster performance, advanced notification bar, improved camera app, a smarter keyboard and more.
The Paranoid Android ROM has now been ported to the HTC One S, thanks to recognized XDA developer member klin1344 for bringing it to us. However, since it’s still being developed, there may be some bugs but it’s stable for the use, so must give it a try. Do keep in mind that the ParanoidAndroid ROM is just for One S with the 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, don’t try on 1.7 GHz Snapdragon S3 processor variant.
Read on how to install ParanoidAndroid ROM for the One S, do keep in mind that the bootloader of your phone must be unlocked and ClockworkMod recovery also must be installed on it, use this all-in-one toolkit to unlock bootloader and for installing recovery. Be sure to make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions
Step #1: Download the ParanoidAndroid ROM (pa_ville_2.17_06OCT2012_095239.zip) and Google Apps package (gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip) to PC.
Step #2: Copy both .zip files to the SD card of your HTC One S.
Step #3: Turn the device off.
Step #4: Reboot the device into recovery mode by holding down the volume down and power buttons, in recovery bootloader mode use volume keys to navigate and power button to select, navigate to recovery option and select it enter in recovery mode.
Step #5: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.
Step #6: Perform full wipe, first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen then select wipe cache and confirm on the next screen. At the end, select Advanced, then Wipe Dalvik cache and confirm on the next screen.
Step #7: Return to main menu by selecting “Go Back”.
Step #8: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded ROM .zip file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete.
Step #9: Repeat the previous step and install the Google Apps package .zip file in the same manner.
Step #10: Turn off the phone.
Step #11: Download Fastboot package (Fastboot.zip) to your PC.
Step #12: Unzip the downloaded fastboot .zip file into C:\, you’ll get a fastboot folder, then also unzip the ROM .zip file you downloaded in the first step, you’ll get a file named boot.img, copy this file to fastboot folder.
Step #13: Reboot phone into bootloader mode again by repeating step 4, but don’t enter in recovery mode, instead of recovery option select Fastboot mode to enter in fastboot mode.
Step #15: Plug your phone to PC using USB cable, you’ll get message saying “FASTBOOT USB” on phone.
Step #16: Open command prompt on the PC that can be founded from Start menu>Programs>Accessories.
Step #17: Enter following commands:
cd c:\Fastboot
fastboot devices
You’ll get serial number of your phone in the command prompt, which means the phone is connected in fastboot mode to PC properly.
Step #18: Enter another command to install boot.img:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Once the boot.img file is installed, you’ll get a message saying finished/Okay.
Step #19: Enter another command to reboot phone:
fastboot reboot
Step #20: Unplug the phone from PC.
