Upgrade T-Mobile Galaxy S3 to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean via MIUI ROM

Just a few days ago, T-Mobile gets a leaked official Jelly Bean update and now Jelly Bean based MIUI ROM is also available for the smartphone, the MIUI custom ROM comes with a unique user interface, it’s packed with decent punch of features such as stunning status bar, new home-brewed apps, beautiful home launcher app, better privacy protection options, theme manager app along with eye-catching themes and lots of useful tweaks.

The MIUI Jelly Bean ROM gives a stunning look and feel to your T-Mobile Galaxy S3, it gives you a unique Jelly Bean experience along with new Jelly Bean apps such as Google Now, smarter keyboard, smarter camera app, new search feature, new notification bar and more.

The MIUI custom ROM is still under development, which means it may contains a few bugs like the developer mentioned that you may face issues in screen Flickers that can be fixed by disabling HW Overlays and the keyboard doesn’t show up that can be fixed by disabling HW keyboard from Language & Input. The developer will iron out these bugs as soon as possible.

You also need to make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of MIUI Jelly Bean ROM from here [XDA LINK].

Step #2: Place the downloaded .zip file to the SD card of your phone.

Step #3: Power off the phone.

Step #4: Reboot the device into recovery mode by holding down the volume, home and power buttons.

Step #5: In recovery mode, first of all make nandroid backup of existing ROM, it’s important because if anything doesn’t work you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state with this backup, to create backup select “Backup and Restore”, then select “Backup”.

Step #6: Perform wipe, first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.

Step #7: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded ROM .zip file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation.

Step #8: Once the installation is done, return to main recovery menu and reboot the device, to do so,  select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”
