Download XXELLA OTA update for Galaxy S3 – fix Exynos 4 Security bug and sudden death
Samsung has just rolled out an OTA update for the international Samsung Galaxy S3 variant having firmware version I9300XXELLA that fixes the infamous Exynos 4 vulnerability. It was a security flaw in the kernel that made the smartphone R/W by all users, it gave the complete access to users to physical memory even it gave root access to all apps that need it, the update gave apps access to the file system and people were able to use it for mischievous activities like they could attack on the phone with malwares. But Samsung didn’t waste the time and is updating the device through OTA to fix the issue.
This update reportedly also fixes the sudden death issue, because the firmware comes with new bootloader, this is the first time Samsung is updating bootloaders. However the sudden death issue hasn’t been confirmed yet.
This new update is currently available just in United Kingdom (UK – BTU), however the Samsung will hopefully roll out the update soon to other regions of the world. If you own a Galaxy S3 and live in UK, don’t waste time even a second, pick up the phone, go to Setting>About Phone and tap on software update to download the OTA update that will fix this dangerous security issue. You may also connect your Galaxy S3 to Samsung KIES to update the firmware.
If you can’t update device via OTA and KIES or if you can’t for the official update, download the Android 4.1.2 I9300XXELLA firmware for Galaxy S3 from here and install it manually using Odin, but keep in mind that you have to install update using Odin at your own risk, we’ll not be held responsible for any damage.
