6 Cool Mobile Camera Attachments
Mobile phone cameras are all the rage these days, letting people snap shots, videos and selfies in an increasingly wide range of places. Of course, not all of those places are always appropriate or in the best of taste, as Prime Minister David Cameron and US President Barack Obama discovered at the Nelson Mandela memorial. They aren’t the only ones in trouble though, with a wide range of at best questionable selfies popping up all over the place.
However, there are also some pretty awesome selfies and mobile phone videos and photos popping up out there too. In fact, some of them are so great that you wouldn’t even know they were taken on a mobile. The thing is, some of these people are using a range of cool new attachments to take their mobile photos to the next level, which is why you wouldn’t know they were taken on a mobile. Below we’ve briefly reviewed six of these cool attachments, and what they do that can help take your own photo and video experiences to the next level and beyond.
1) Thermal Camera by Sleek Thermal
This is possibly the coolest mobile camera attachment we’ve ever seen, letting you record video or snap photos in thermal. It’s not a night vision knock off either, but a true thermal camera for your mobile. It even includes a few different visual filters that let you see things in other colors, depending on your needs. While it’s a bit pricey, starting out at around £80, it’s an amazingly cool attachment, and one that the mobile spy in you probably can’t live without.
2) The Holga iPhone Lens Kit
This is a great and very inexpensive bit of kit you can use to apply one of nine different lens effects to your mobile photos. It just snaps on your phone, and then you spin the dial to get the photo effects you’d like. While it’s not an Instagram filter, it’s still pretty cool, and will let you take a number of interesting shots. Each filter effect is clearly marked in the center of the wheel, and the whole pack is under £25.
3) Gorilla Pod Mobile Stand
This is a pretty cool little device. It’s a stand that lets you bend and flex it into almost any shape or design you’d like. That allows you to position your phone in some otherwise impossible positions to take photos of whatever you want to be a part of. Of course, you can also use it to take videos, making for some great Vine moments if you catch the right moments. It’s less than £25 as well, folding up to easily fit in most small bags or a back pocket.
4) Photo JoJo Phone Lenses
A unique and innovative lens attachment system makes this one of the coolest on our list. It works by letting you attach a self-adhesive magnetic ring around the lens of your phone camera. Then, you just snap on whichever lens you’re wanting to use. The base pack includes four lenses: Fisheye, Macro, Telephoto (x2), and Wide Angle. It runs about £75 for the whole kit. Just be careful not to move suddenly when taking photos, as the magnets aren’t super strong. Major names like Sony are also releasing their own device specific lenses too, but if you don’t have the right device, you’ll be happy with a set of these instead.
5) iPhone Live Action Camera
This great little piece of kit is made by Belkin, and includes a remote control. What it does is let you remotely snap shots or start recording video with your phone. It’s perfect for family or group events, when you want everyone in the photo, but that doesn’t leave anyone there to take the photos. There are other uses too. Since propping up your mobile isn’t always easy or possible, it also comes with a stand that will snugly hold your device, letting you snap shots without worrying about your phone falling over. It’s a little less than £35, making it a must have for those who regularly find themselves in ‘family moments’.
6) Photo JoJo Telephoto Lens and Tripod
If you’ve ever tried to take shots with a traditional camera and a telephoto lens, you know how difficult that process can be. Too often images end up blurry or out of focus as the lens moves with your hand. However, with a tripod it’s a much easier process. That’s why this little kit includes a telephoto lens that works from 8x to 12x, and a lovely stand, which prevents blurry shots. You can get the whole pack for under £30, making it a great little accessory for the nature lover or spy in you.
Whether you’re just starting to take photos with a new mobile phone, or looking to carve a name for yourself in the online sphere, these accessories and attachments will do wonders for your shots. You’ll be able to be anything from a James Bond style mobile spy to your own Paparazzi or local club diva. You just need to decide what you want to do, and in some cases whether you’re comfortable attaching that much extra gear to your otherwise small mobile.
